Summary

We can accomplish great exploits if we know God, but to know Him, we must correctly interpret His Word. Many people today think they know God, but they have an incorrect interpretation of the Bible. If the Word of God is taught wrong, we will believe wrong, and wrong-believing leads to wrong-living. God deals with us through covenants; the major biblical covenants are the covenant of Abraham, the expired Law of Moses, and the current covenant of grace. All three covenants were sealed with blood, but unlike the first two agreements that were marked by animal blood, the covenant of grace involved the blood of Jesus, Himself. This third covenant also differs from the other two in that the only requirement to be forgiven of sin and in right-standing with God is to believe in His Son. The knowledge of this allows us to walk in the blessings God wants for us.
  1. The Bible is divided into three covenants, each different from the other.
    1. The unconditional Abrahamic covenant mirrors the current covenant of grace. It was an agreement between God and Abraham based on bloodline. The only requirement to be blessed under this covenant was that one had to be a descendent of Abraham.
      1. God blessed Abraham, and all his future generations, because Abraham believed.
      2. For what saith the scripture? Abraham believed God, and it was counted unto him for righteousness (Romans 4:3).
    2. The Law of Moses was a conditional covenant based on performance.
      1. This covenant included the Ten Commandments, plus more than six hundred additional laws.
      2. Under this agreement, the people could only qualify for God’s blessing if they kept the law. If they broke any one of them, they were cursed. No one could keep the law because it was too perfect.
    3. The covenant of grace is unconditional and sealed with Jesus’ blood.
      1. This agreement is based on God’s love, not on man’s performance or any earthly bloodline.
      2. The only condition to enter into this covenant is belief in Christ. We receive God’s blessings by faith in Jesus, not through self-effort.
  1. For those who believe in Jesus, the law has been replaced by grace.
    1. The law had an expiration date; it expired when Jesus came. We are now under a better covenant with better promises.
      1. But now hath he obtained a more excellent ministry, by how much also he is the mediator of a better covenant, which was established upon better promises (Hebrews 8:6).
    2. With the new covenant came its author, the Holy Spirit. When we believe in Jesus, the Spirit enters into us.
      1. And hope maketh not ashamed; because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us(Romans 5:5).
      2. We will not sin more now that we are no longer under the law because the Holy Spirit takes away our desire to sin. We will not want to do the things we did before.
      3. We become new beings and God begins working in us when we get born again. This comes with the new covenant package.
      4. Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new (2 Corinthians 5:17).
    3. We can make multiple comparisons between the covenant of the law and the covenant of grace.
      1. The law was a deal cut only with God and Jewish people; grace is a deal with God and His Son.
      2. The covenant of the law killed; the covenant of grace gives life.
      3. The covenant of the law was about man’s faithfulness; the covenant of grace is about Jesus’ faithfulness.
      4. The law shone the light on sin; grace shines the light on Jesus’ perfection.
      5. The law brought out man’s condemnation and sin; grace makes us holy and justifies us.
      6. The law produced sin-consciousness; grace makes us Jesus-conscious. “But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord” (2 Corinthians 3:18).
      7. The law covered sin with animal blood; under grace, Jesus’ blood completely removes sin. “So Christ was once offered to bear the sins of many; and unto them that look for him shall he appear the second time without sin unto salvation”(Hebrews 9:28).
  1. Grace is an agreement between God and Jesus. We are the beneficiaries.
    1. If we believe not, yet he abideth faithful: he cannot deny himself(2 Timothy 2:13).
      1. Under grace, not even the failure of our faithfulness will stop Jesus from being faithful. When our own faith falters, we are strengthened by having faith in His faith.
      2. Even the righteousness of God which is by faith of Jesus Christ unto all and upon all them that believe: for there is no difference (Romans 3:22).
    2. If we are faithless [do not believe and are untrue to Him], He remains true (faithful to His Word and His righteous character), for He cannot deny Himself (2 Timothy 2:13, AMPC).
      1. Under the law, if man could not be faithful, then God could not be faithful to man.
    3. God is always the same, but He deals with us differently based on whatever covenant we believe.
      1. Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever (Hebrews 13:8).
