The Covenant of Promise

Aug. 12, 2018 | By Creflo Dollar

Because of the current covenant of grace under which we now live, we do not have to struggle to get what we need to succeed. Everything has already been done and made available to us by the cross of Christ. However, to get Jesus’ finished works to manifest in our lives, we must respond to them in faith. This includes our salvation, deliverance, prosperity, forgiveness, and every other promise that God made. We can claim the promises for ourselves when we understand the spiritual laws He established. Not only is it important that we are aware of these laws, but we must also know that Christ has given us specific authority to enforce them. Regardless of who we are or what is going on in our lives, these spiritual principles will always work for us without fail if we believe them.

  1. Being aware of the spiritual principles ruling the physical world enables us to succeed.
    1. God established spiritual laws to govern the physical world. Understanding them brings what exists in the spiritual realm into the physical realm. These principles work for everyone.
      1. For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men (Titus 2:11).
    2. There are many spiritual laws in place that govern every aspect of our lives. One of these laws warns us that we will have what we say.
      1. For verily I say unto you, That whosoever shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that those things which he saith shall come to pass; he shall have whatsoever he saith (Mark 11:23).
      2. Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof (Proverbs 18:21).
    3. Another spiritual law says not to judge others.
      1. Judge not, that ye be not judged. For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged: and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again (Matthew 7:1, 2).
    4. There is also a law governing prosperity.
      1. Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again (Luke 6:38).
  1. Spiritual laws can work for or against us. They exist independently of our opinions.
    1. Everything bad that happens in our lives is the result of us turning on a spiritual law that governs it, whether we know it or not. However, the law of the Spirit of life in Jesus is more powerful than the law of sin and death.
      1. For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death (Romans 8:2) .
    2. Whatever situation we are in has a greater spiritual law governing it. We have been given everything we need for victory.
      1. According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue: Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust (2 Peter 1:3, 4).
    3. We must be careful not to think that our own thoughts and opinions are the ultimate truth. God’s Word is the only truth.
      1. God forbid: yea, let God be true, but every man a liar; as it is written, That thou mightest be justified in thy sayings, and mightest overcome when thou art judged (Romans 3:4).
    4. With God living in us, we have the ability to make our way prosperous and have good success.
      1. This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success (Joshua 1:8).
  1. We overcome when we consider God’s promises more than the situation at hand.
    1. Wherefore remember, that ye being in time past Gentiles in the flesh, who are called Uncircumcision by that which is called the Circumcision in the flesh made by hands; That at that time ye were without Christ, being aliens from the commonwealth of Israel, and strangers from the covenants of promise, having no hope, and without God in the world (Ephesians 2:11, 12).
      1. We must be covenant-minded. This means continually meditating on the promises contained in God’s Word.
      2. We live in a hopeless world. The covenant of promise gives us hope, which is an earnest expectation.
    2. Who against hope believed in hope, that he might become the father of many nations, according to that which was spoken, So shall thy seed be. And being not weak in faith, he considered not his own body now dead, when he was about an hundred years old, neither yet the deadness of Sarah's womb(Romans 4:18, 19).
      1. God’s promises give us hope when the situation seems hopeless.
      2. Faith is when we choose to consider the promise instead of the problem, regardless of what it seems like.
      3. When we focus on the situation, we harden our hearts to the promise.
      4. We must not trust more in earthly things than in the authority God gave us to rise above the problem.
      5. When we focus on the problem, we take on care; God says to give those cares to Him.
      6. Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you (1 Peter 5:7).
